The faculty of the department of classics are all involved in significant original research in the world of classical antiquity. Specialist areas of research include ancient geography, philosophy, social history, numismatics, comedy, classical reception, and Roman and Jewish law. Research awards include Israel science Foundation three year grants awarded to Dr Daniela Dueck and to Professor David Schaps and a Young Scientists’ Research grant awarded by the German-Israel Foundation to Dr Lisa Maurice.  Professor Schaps was also awarded the Aryeh Kindler Prize by the Israel Numismatic Society for the best book on numismatics by an Israeli scholar in 2010 (5770).
